Till Insurance Do Us part

Let me try and see it with a clear perspective "Insurance" as we all understand is ones safety cover against a rainy day. And one never knows when it might rain. It is something that lays to rest our insecurity about uncertainty . It helps one understand the value of life or ill health by paying a price for it, every year... year after year. If one falls sick or loses his / her life...great, but if you don't, you are paying for your life anyway. Its a different matter that if you saved the same amount every year in your bank, it would have gathered cumulative interest and it would still be yours and not some institutions that claims to be your "support system". It is so sad that we as a human race have come to such a pass that we have to depend on an external support system.
We are perfectly capable of saving up for a rainy day aren't we, and we always have been.  Its just that we have these invaders telling us that the rainy day is right around the corner and that you may not have the time to save for the rainy day. They are here to convince us that you might die tomorrow or fall grievously sick  the next moment.
Well all that is fine and sounds all good, but the catch here is that they feed on our fears to feed their own mouths. Unfortunately this theory that they tout about the support system is not for our support but to support their own insurance empires.
Our fear of the unknown becomes their business, and worst of all its flourishing. Life insurance, Medical insurance, Building insurance, travel insurance, insurance against calamities, theft insurance and the latest to join the band wagon is income insurance and so on. I am surprised actually that they haven't yet convinced us that it is extremely essential to insure each and every body part of ours, or that it is necessary to insure your relationships because you never know when they might break.
Actually.....my nails keep breaking, cant i get a nail insurance done. I feel quite disappointed with the way these insurance companies work ....I know that if i put in a claim for a broken nail, they would get back to me saying that my claim has been rejected.Either because it hasn't broken from the cuticle upwards or that it has broken diagonally and not across, and the policy states otherwise. It says that it should break just above the cuticle and across, not diagonally. Alas !!!! My claim that i so generously invested in, has been rejected for reasons i least expected.
That was a spoof, but it is true for any kind of insurance policy. This industry is playing with the value systems of cultures across the globe. For example Medical insurance. Every hospital  is aware that by and large an average person has a mediclaim policy . This fact makes them charge liberally because they know that it is going to be paid by the insurance company. So over the years the already overcharging hospitals start to escalate their charges even more. What all of us don't see is that a monetarily backward human being is the one who is bearing the brunt of it all. An average Indian doesn't even have enough money to support his children's schooling and higher education, leave alone paying fore insurances. What if a person like this falls sick and has to undergo an operation. The poor soul has to either mortgage his house or sell his wife's jewellery. Already under tremendous pressure, financial and emotional, this persons dreams that he/she built around them come crumbling down. And they have to rebuild their lives again from  scratch. Having to visit a hospital is probably their worst nightmare. The ghosts of those bills linger around them even when they are not sick, probably forever.
So what are these insurance companies really doing. They promote unfair practices, they promote inflation and they promote insecurity.
Another example and the biggest is "Life insurance". If I die, my family gets a huge benefit...monetary, and i probably don't have to work for the next few years, I could merely sit and live off that money or maybe work for a few years, or maybe toy with a few businesses or maybe just open up an insurance company or take up a franchisee. It would be great business to convince people that you might die tomorrow, so give me your money  and i will secure your future. If you happen to die, at least your family feels secure.......well your family feels secure when you are alive and happy. Your family feels secure when they feel the security because of your touch. Not because you are gone and now they have money.
More later........
